Expressive Type Posters

This poster series explores typography as a visual language capable of communicating movement, rhythm, and energy beyond the written word. Working within a deliberately limited visual system, the project investigates how type can function simultaneously as both content and image through composition, scale, repetition, and abstraction.

Challenge

Using a restricted palette of black, white, and blue alongside a curated selection of typefaces spanning script, pixel, pictorial, and wood type classifications, the series develops three expressive compositions that challenge conventional approaches to typography. Rather than prioritizing readability alone, each poster emphasizes visual flow, encouraging the viewer's eye to travel through the composition while discovering new relationships between letterforms.

Solution

The resulting posters demonstrate how creative constraints can inspire experimentation, revealing typography's ability to function simultaneously as language, composition, and image.

Each of the final posters are created with the intention of giving the viewer a visual experience, creating a composition that feels dynamic and leads the eye across the page.
